Mingzhou Zhang is an active translator, publisher and international children’s reading promoter. After he graduated from the Shanghai International Studies University in 1991, he worked in the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in charge of Cambodia Affairs. He quitted from the Foreign Ministry and later in 1998 he created Bridging Culture &Media Company (Beijing) Ltd, and in 2002 he joined CBBY (Chinese Section of IBBY) as Deputy Secretary General. From 2015 to 2018 he worked as General Manager of the International Cooperation Department of CCPPG (China Children’s Press& Publication Group). He was elected to the IBBY Executive Committee from 2008 to 2012 and was the 2012 Chair of the IBBY-Asahi Reading Promotion Award. He served in IBBY EC again in 2014 and as IBBY Vice-President from 2016-18.
He was the organizer of the 30th IBBY World Congress held in Macau, China in 2006.
In 2013 he was Jury Member, in 2021 as Jury President of BIB (Bratislava Illustration Biennial), and served many times in various juries for children’s books in China and abroad. In 2018, he was elected as IBBY President. In 2018, because of his initiative, IBBY signed an agreement with IPA (International Publishers Association) on joint reading promotion efforts worldwide.
